"Jesse" starred Christina Applegate, playing a single mom trying to make her way in the world. Liza Snyder was cast in the role of Linda, Jesse's wisecracking friend. After the first season the show changed dramatically, and Jesse's family (her father, played by George Dzundza, and two brothers, played by David Deluise and John Lehr) was replaced by two new characters: Nurse Kurt, played by Daryl Thierse and Doctor Danny, played by Kevin Rahm. Despite good ratings, however, the show suffered the same fate as its predecessors in the slot following "Friends," and was canceled after the second season. "A role like this is great fun to play, because Linda always spoke her mind, which at times could be very annoying to Jesse. But I loved the fact that Linda always told the truth, which in the end is the best kind of friend to have. Christina definitely set the tone for the set, and she did a great job. Even with the daunting task of carrying her own show, she united us as a cast, and was extremely supportive of everyone. She was responsible for making it a lovely place to go to work. It's hard to say which was more difficult...saying goodbye to the show itself, or saying goodbye to the fantastic cast and crew. Although we have all gone on to do other things, I still miss seeing those people every day. I consider Christina and Jennifer Milmore (who played Carrie) my sisters, and see them whenever I can. A once in a lifetime experience, for sure." |
